Dr. Darren LaCharite

Dr. Darren LaCharite has been a trusted and familiar presence in the community for over 35 years. A graduate of Traverse City High School in 1979, he initially pursued an engineering degree in California while also developing his skills in collegiate golf. However, a life-changing event would ultimately redirect his path.


While attending college, Dr. Darren was involved in a serious motor vehicle accident caused by a drunk driver. He suffered significant whiplash injuries, resulting in chronic neck and back pain, along with persistent headaches. After months of traditional medical care with little relief, he was referred to a chiropractor. The results were immediate and profound—sparking not only his recovery, but also his passion for chiropractic care.

Inspired by his experience, Dr. Darren shifted his focus and enrolled at the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic, where he earned his Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 1987. Following graduation, he remained on staff as an assistant clinician, further developing his clinical expertise while beginning to build his own practice.


In 1991, Dr. Darren returned to Northern Michigan and joined a practice in Frankfort. Within a year, he purchased the practice, and in 1995, he expanded by opening a second location in Honor. Since then, he has been dedicated to serving the Benzie County community with compassionate, patient-centered care.


After decades of ownership and leadership, Dr. Darren has transitioned the practice to Dr. Megan Zarnick. While he has sold the practice, he remains an active and valued part of the team, continuing to care for patients and support the mission of Gateway Chiropractic.


Outside of the office, Dr. Darren enjoys staying active and engaged in the community. He is an avid hockey player and takes great pride in watching his son excel in the sport. His interests also include golf, boating, paddleboarding, snowshoeing, reading, helping patients achieve their health goals and spending time with his lovely wife, Terri.
